If mom does her exercises and is able to do well with transferring her weight side to side, it looks like she will get to try the cane on Monday! That’s definitely helping to keep her motivated.

Right after her session her therapist led us to the monthly Stroke Survivors group meeting. It was actually pretty interesting and it was nice to meet some others who understand what mom is going through. They were able to share their experiences, both in terms of physical recovery as well as how life changed in general since the stroke. It was a little sad to hear others talk about how they have also lost contact with a lot of their friends but at the same time it was nice to know that mom’s situation is not unique. It was awesome that one of the guys there told mom that she “is among friends”. That’s what I crave for her. She needs new friends. Most of her old ones are too busy for her. They can blame us for moving her so far from them, but it’s what we felt was best for her. It’s also hard because I think those that knew the “Old SueB” don’t really know how to deal with the new one. That’s OK. We’re handling it. Hopefully she will find comfort in the new people that she meets and comes to accept that this is her new life and it’s really not all that bad.

Mom’s PT went very well today.
