I’m editing where things are different, but some of the same rules still apply.

The most common questions that we get all revolve around people’s need to be helpful and supportive, and in Sue’s case, it has been nothing short of amazing and overwhelming. So what can you do to help during this time?

Visit her! The address and rules for visit are below!

Send her a card – especially one with a picture of you.

Pray.

Think positive thoughts.

Meditate.

Take an aspirin every day.

Send good vibes.

Eat right and exercise.

Sue doesn’t talk very much at this point. Usually just one word answers. Some days are better than others. Although she might not say much, she is still paying attention and watching what you do.

Let us know (but it’s not required).
Sue is no longer getting therapy, but she does participate in some of the events at Morningside. If you’re planning a visit, it’s usually best to avoid Wednesdays at 1:00 and Thursdays at 3:00. Don’t mess with her Bingo and Happy Hour times! If you feel like you want to call ahead, send your info through the contact page and Kim will reach out to you or you can check with the facility directly – 703-777-2777. There is a front desk person there that can check with her caregiver to see if she’s up for having visitors. Of course you are welcome to stop in (her address is listed below).

Stay positive!
Sue is comfortable. She knows that she will not improve so we are trying to make the best of it. I believe that when she has visitors or participates in activities, she is just really focused at taking it all in. In order to keep going strong, she needs to be surrounded by positivity. Please try to avoid crying around her, or telling her that you are sorry, or suggesting anything to her that is not positive. We have had people come in and cry and wail while holding her hand. Although it is difficult to see Sue in any type of vulnerable or damaged state, we need to continue to be an encouragement to her. Just be her friend.

Still no food.
As much as we appreciate it the food (and trust me, we love it), we are overwhelmed and it is mostly going to waste. Sue is on a modified diet and needs to have her food prepared a specific way. She IS eating well, so don’t worry about her being hungry. On most days I get report that she has eaten 100% of her meals!

Once again, I ask you to please read the following article for more information:
The Gift of Presence, the Perils of Advice

Sue’s Address:

Sue Boehm

Morningside House of Leesburg
316 Harrison St. SE
Apt #120
Leesburg, VA 20175

UPDATED ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16!
